I need to give my long haired Tabby a hair cut. What should I use?

She has very bad mattes mostly by her tail, and will not let me near her with sissors. I cannot take her to any groomer becasue they all want me to drug her so she is out of it, I think she is too old to be put to sleep if she is not getting sometihng serious done. Are there special shears or clippers I should use to get these mattes off?

A competent groomer should be willing to simply muzzle your cat for a short deal with the clippers.

The techs at my vet office clip mats from some of my cats all the time. Ask your vet if it could be done at his office.

You don't want to "get near your cat with scissors". Cats have extremely thin skin and you can really hurt them with scissors. You can't really get close enough to the skin anyway to get mats out. They form from the skin outward.

get yourself some welders gloves or barb q gloves leather for sure, they sell barbere clippers very cheep get someone to hold her and you just, first off i dont know of any cat that hates bruching they have a matte cleaner at the pet store not much money and it workds like a charm, after you have thios done or do it yourself remeber to regualrally brush the cat at lease twice a month to avoid this problem. or you can do it all at once pay a vet to give her a slow me down shot and shave her like a bald eagle at least the mattes wont bother her

Try small sewing scissors, but if that doesn't work, there should be a good groomer out there who wont drug her, just keep calling places and searching. Since shes a tabby, make sure to brush her once a day with a cat brush, especially after she gets the mattes taken care of. Good luck!
