I went to visit my family in Mississippi, and everyone of them had a negative comment about my natural hair.

"WHY DID YOU CUT THAT LONG PRETTY HAIR?"

"YOU LOOKED BETTER WITH LONG HAIR."

I cut my permed hair because it was causing heavy damage. Every where I walked I had tons of hair coming out.

I think it is because people associate longer, straighter hair as better hair. Which is not always true. I like my hair straight, rather than curly even though I switch it up from time to time. I cut all my perm out before and wore it natural for a while but since my hair is really thick and curly, it becomes unruly. If you like the way your hair is now, then keep it. It's your hair and you're the only one that is staring back at you in the mirror!

Because they have self hate. It's abundant down south. I'm from East Texas and I grew up with that type of nonsense. They only know what they have been taught. Don't be hurt and don't hate them because they honestly don't mean any harm. It's all they know

I would say it depends on the style . If it is just weighing down with no lif to it and you got it cut and layers cut into it so it isn't so heavy and shaped- then that would look better to me. When I think of bad curls I think of Weird Al Yankovic! Sometimes different hair on a person takes dome getting used to- since they were so ussed to your old style. As long as you like it and know what's hip- don't worry about it.
