I don't know how short you are thinking of going, but I can tell you from experience that a huge change is shocking. If your face is on the round side, you should not cut it crazy short like Natalie Portman or Keira Knghtley. My hair used to be down to my waist, and I needed a change. I cut it to about my collar bone with lots of layers and a long, sideways bang. It was the best thing I ever did. I go so many compliments. My face is relatively round and I find that the length I cut it to, with most of my layers and angles starting at the chin, was very flattering and easy. So, good luck and happy cutting!!

I'm a guy, not the one in that picture, by the way. I don't know if my adventures in hair will be relevant, but I'll tell you anyhow. I grew my hair down to my shoulders and then got it cut short. All of a sudden people started being much nicer to me. I let it grow long and then got it cut short a few times as an experiment and it always worked the same. Hair grows slowly and you don't even notice people becoming gradually more unpleasant, but when you get it cut, the change is sudden and you do notice that people are treating you differently. Finally I decided to just let everybody be nice all the time and I've kept it short ever since.

step by step... cut it just below your sholders and see how you like it, and also how it behaves at that length. if you like it after living with it for a bit , you can go shorter, but if you go short right away and hate it, it takes an awfully long time to get back that lost length!

I have really long hair too, and envy your guts! What's important is that YOU like your hair, whatever you decide to do with it. And perhaps it would be less traumatic to get it cut short in stages, a few inches every few weeks. Good luck!

if you are asking if larger women look nice with short hair. the answer is yes. depending on the cut and the shape of your face.

my wife is a hairdresser and she says... " too long of hair on anyone just drags your whole look down. Sometimes long hair acts as a persons security blanket... it's easy to hide behind so the thought of cutting it off is scary.. but let me tell ya.. it is very liberating. I know of what I speak. I had hair that was to my waist and one day I decided.. hey.. I want to cut it, and it was the best thing I did. It lifted my face and gave me a sense of style beyond my "hippy-shiek". Then I went and got a new colour and some highlights to really spruce up the new look. But beware... don't let a stylist go crazy. I didn't crop my hair off into nothing because hey ... there is such thing as overboard. A nice length to begin at is armpit length and add some nice LONG layers. If you have hair that you have never had processed ( permed or highlighted) and you cut off 10 inches, donate it to Locks of Love... it's a place that takes that hair and makes it into wigs for children who have cancer and have lost their hair from chemo. So if you decide you miss your hair after you get it cut, atleast you'll still feel good about what you did with the hair you cut off. Besides, it will grow back if you really don't like it. Just don't go crazy cause the shorter you go the longer it takes to grow back, but have some fun and get a new look.. it's time!. Good luck.

If your more on the heavy side, mid length is best. Like Just below your shoulder blades. If your face is rounder, a pixie style short cut will only increase the size of your face. The best short hair cut for women with rounder face or more prominent jaw lines is a cut about an inch and a half below your chin. Check out some of Julia Stile's shorter cuts. Oh, and one more thing. If you're just getting sick of the same old hair style and that's why you want to cut it short, start slowly. Your hair is long so you can try a ton of different styles. Maybe start by getting layers and side-swept bangs. And then work your way to a short cut. Hope this helped!

Hair grows -- but it grows slowly (just 1/2 an inch per month).

As a person who's gone from long to short very suddenly, with very bad results, my suggestion is ... cut off 3-4 inches at a time. If you take it in stages, then you won't be forced to spend months with a haircut you hate.

Your question was cut off. "On bigger ..." I don't know what you meant there, but I do have another comment. Speak with your hair stylist about what sorts of styles suit what sorts of faces and builds. That might help. As a for example, I'm super tall -- so very short hair makes me look out of proportion. I also have a very round face -- so very short hair makes me look heavy. Basically, I should never have had short hair ... :-)
