Please do NOT donate your hair to "Locks of Love". They are a complete scam ! Check out give.org's take on them:

Locks of love made only 113 wigs in an entire year, they SELL the majority of the hair received (for extensions) and they do not allow for independent auditing of their financial records. Who knows where the money from selling hair really goes to, somebody's pocket perhaps ?

A lot of hair doesn't even make it Locks of Love, type in "human hair ponytail" on EBay and look at all those listings. That hair is being sold to hair fetishists.

If you don't mind your hair ending up on Paris Hilton's back or sold to a pervert though ....... go ahead and "donate"

If it gets in the way, just tie it back or braid it. If you want to cut it, sell the ponytail yourself and donate the money to your favorite charity, American Cancer Society etc.

I think you would look great with short hair and it wouldnt get in the way with playing sports

I would visit a hairstylist near you that works with the "Locks of Love" program. Just call around to find one if you don't know of one already. Have a stylist show you the different ways your new shorter hair could be styled. That way, you can feel more confident about making this big change in your hair length. This is a very nice thing you are considering. Best of luck to you.

Wear it the way you feel most comfortable ... if that is long, then keep it long. If you'd be happier with shorter hair, then have it cut.

A good rule of thumb for cutting is the 2 week rule : if you have no doubts about wanting to cut for 2 weeks, there's less of a chance that you'll regret it. After all, it takes a few minutes to cut, but a few years to regrow if you do end up regretting it ...

As for Locks of Love : the last I've heard (though I never checked whether this was fact or not!) is that they've got more hair than they can handle. Again : I don't know whether this is fact or gossip ...

Cutting it for locks of love would be a very sweet thing to do. If you get it cut, get it cut so you have just enough hair to make a pony tail (that way it's not too short) for sports.

If you're imagining that your hair would go for wigs for kids with cancer, re-imagine. They get about 2000 donations per week and as far as I've heard they haven't done 20 human hair wigs for kids in any single year yet. They sell the "excess" hair for program expenses. Kids under 6 years of age have never gotten human hair wigs from them. Kids over 6 with "temporary" hair loss from chemotherapy have never gotten wigs from them.

If you like your hair, keep it and make a donation for cancer research or to an organization that helps more kids. If you don't like your hair, cut it and make an informed decision on how to use the harvested hair.
